GRADUATE RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES IN APPLIED SCIENCE

Assessing the effects of flow management on ecosystem quality.

The CIRAIG and its research unit, the International Life Cycle Chair, is looking for a Ph. D. student interested in contributing to the development of a modelling tool aimed at assessing the impacts of hydropower projects and flow management on ecosystem quality within a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). LCA is a science-based approach aimed at designing environmentally preferred technologies.

This project is a collaborative venture involving members of École Polytechnique de Montréal, Université du Québec à Montréal, Université de Montréal, and Hydro-Québec.
The student conducting this project would be supervised by Dr Manuele Margni (l’École Polytechnique de Montréal, Département de Mathématiques et Génie Industriel), and co-supervised by Dr Cécile Bulle (Université du Québec à Montréal, Département de stratégie, responsabilité sociale et environnementale), and Dr Daniel Boisclair (Université de Montréal, Département de Sciences Biologiques). The salary offered for this position is $21K per year for 3 years.

Candidates are expected to possess a solid background in ecology/environmental sciences (B. Sc., and/or M. Sc.) and a strong interest for quantitative modelling. A functional knowledge of French (spoken and written) is mandatory. If you are bright and enjoy a challenge involving database analysis and modelling in the field of applied sciences, at the interface of engineering, and ecology, please send your CV and a statement of interest to Manuele Margni (Manuele.Margni@polymtl.ca) at your earliest convenience, and no later than November 15th 2014.
