It’s World Fisheries Day!

World Fisheries Day is celebrated around the world on November 21 to highlight the importance of maintaining the world’s fisheries. This is done though rallies, workshops, meetings, cultural programs, arts events and exhibitions.

In many nations, fish provide one of the most easily accessible and affordable sources of animal protein. However, a recent study by the United Nations reported that more than two-thirds of the world’s fisheries have been overfished, and many more are in a state of decline because of loss of habitat, pollution and global warming.  Raising awareness of this issue on a global scale can help convince governments and citizens around the world to promote the sustainable management of fish stocks!
