Former CARS president, Steven Cooke, and several other members of the fisheries and aquatic sciences community in Canada have penned an informal discussion paper to begin a conversation about the future of the Canadian Conference for Fisheries Research (CCFFR). You can read it here. The paper focuses around the potential for merging CCFFR with the Society of Canadian Limnologists (SCL) to form a new society, one of whose main tasks will be ensuring the long-term management and organization of an annual conference. There may be some role for CARS to play in the future model.
A discussion about these ideas will continue at the CCFFR business meeting in Halifax in January (2020).
