Great Lakes Acoustic Telemetry Observation System – Term Position

Salary: Approximately $45,000 plus benefits 

Closing date: April 22, 201

Location: USGS-Hammond Bay Biological Station / Rogers City/Millersburg area, Michigan 

Responsibilities: Plan, lead, and conduct behavioral ecology project using acoustic telemetry focused on walleye in Lake Erie. The successful applicant will coordinate with scientists in universities, and state and federal agencies to conduct field work, data analyses, and paper preparation. Incumbent required to publish in scientific journals. Regular interaction required with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources in Sandusky, Ohio, and other fishery management agencies on Lake Erie. 1-year term position, renewable for 2 additional years.

Qualifications: Ph.D. required in one of the fields listed: ecology, behavioral science, fishery biology, conservation, or related discipline; must be interested in fishery management and have excellent communication skills with proven publication record. Proficient with analyzing data using command line scripting language (R, python) required. Capability to assist with management of large data sets. Statistical background essential. Hammond Bay Biological Station: Operated by the USGS, lLocated approximately 14 miles NW of Rogers City on Lake Huron. Station personnel conduct research on Great Lakes ecology and fisheries.
