It is with great sorrow that the family of Richard (Dick) Ryder announce his passing on Friday, September 19, 2014 at Hogarth Riverview Manor.

Born on February 25, 1931, in Windsor, Ontario, Dick obtained his MSc. in Zoology from the University of Michigan. He was employed with the Department of Lands and Forests/Ministry of Natural Resources for 43 years as a Biologist/Fisheries Research Scientist. Dick received several awards for his long career in fisheries. He was President of the Northwest Chapter of the American Fisheries Society, as well as the President of the American Fisheries Society in 1980/81. He was elected into the National Fisheries Hall of Excellence in 1999.

Dick is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sonja (Thomson); daughter Vikki (Dale) and grandchildren Lauren, Sam and Lana; son Jeff and grandson Devon; brother-in-law Bert Thomson (Jan), niece Karen and nephew Callum; sister-in-law Barbara Ryder and nephews Jim and Craig (Carolyn).

He was predeceased by his parents Mabel and Fred Ryder, and his brother Bill Ryder.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, September 27, 2014.
